![]() If you're looking for "cost effective" you better look elsewhere.2012 Volvo C30 transmission services offered by Park Place: With all that said, if you really like the car and don't mind spending money getting it "restored" to the degree of your liking, then there is no issue with that. Not only that, but if the car is permanently disabled from a collision or colossal mechanical failure, you essentially lose your whole investment because the value of the car is not very elastic. They're not that great when they are running and that's the thing, they never seem to stay running. In my experience, a poorly maintained/neglected older vehicle is not worth keeping around once the repair bills start approaching quadruple digits. If you tried everything cheap and are not satisfied, you really have to weigh the expenses ahead of you. Personally I would explore the cheapest options for resolving your issues. Getting a used transmission is essetially gambling, even if it doesn't have the same or worse problems than your own transmission, it could easily start having problems in a year or 2. Getting a rebuild for the transmission is going be nearly impossible because no one knows how to rebuild those Aisin 5 speed autos. Replacing the transmission with a new unit is also going to be quite expensive, probably not worth it. Topping off the fluid or getting it drained and refilled is darn cheap and worth trying to see if it helps. Rough shifts between 1 and 2 can be a fluid level or condition problem, especially if there is a flare (rpm goes up then crashes down while the shift happens). Running a thicker oil can help, but don't run too thick an oil in the winter. Oil burning is most likely a sign of worn out engine parts, and doing a proper rebuild will help, but that's probably prohibitively expensive given the value of the car. If the rest of the car is in good shape, and it just burns a little oil and shifts a little rough, those problems are probably manageable. Being able to work on them yourself is nice because it can keep the cost down, but that's not always an option for everybody. Let's be honest with ourselves, older higher mileage Volvos are money pits. ![]() Vintage Import parts - awesome for older Volvos.Skandix Europe - ships to North America.Swedish Embassy Service notes for 120-130 series cars.*Please don't sell your car on this site.
